Legislative Action Workshop
Sylvia Schwarz, Phil Benson, & Guest
9:30am social
10:00am workshop
We are so excited about this new type of forum! The purpose of this event is two-fold:
1. build skills for engaging with legislators (in general) and
2. work together in advocating for the repeal of the state-level anti-Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) legislation, Minn. Statutes 3.226 and 16C.053 (SF 2880), and advocate for HR 2407 at the federal level.
The workshop will be led by Sylvia Schwarz, Phil Benson, and other local Palestinian solidarity activists to advocate for Palestinian human rights via a legislative and editorial avenue. A resident of St. Paul, Sylvia is a retired engineer, co-organizer of MN Break the Bonds Campaign, and member of Jewish Voice for Peace – Twin Cities.
Phil is an attorney (whistleblower litigation), co-organizer of MN Break the Bonds Campaign, co-founder of the MN DFL Muslim Caucus, member of Board of Trustees of Friends of Sabeel – North America (FOSNA) and an unfolding Presbyterian.
This will be a morning of learning how to effectively talk with our state legislators, write persuasive editorial letters and comments, and generally bring BDS to the forefront of legislative action. After this forum, you’ll be well equipped to contact your legislators. If you don’t know who your legislators are, don’t worry, a list of lawmakers by district will be provided.
Please bring tools for your preferred method of writing (ex. Computer, notepad, etc.)
