Palestinian Right of Return: the Road to a Durable and Just Solution
Murad Salem

9:30am social
10:00am presentation & discussion

Seventy-one years after the Nakba, 71 years from the UN General Assembly Resolution Number 194, yet the right of return remains an afterthought both to the mainstream political discourse and among solidarity activists. This fundamental aspect of justice for Palestinians and Palestine is often viewed as controversial or inappropriate for the current moment (or ever).

This discussion will include a brief introduction of the Palestinian refugee situation from personal experience, an overall view of the status quo of the Palestinian refugees and discussion of the practicality of return, to imagine the future of Palestine and develop tools for changing the present.

Murad Salem is a Twin-Cities-based Palestinian refugee born and raised in a Palestinian refugee camp in the West Bank. He is a political and social activist working with Palestinian refugees and internally displaced people in Palestine. He co-founded youth groups and networks in Palestine that focus on the practicality of return, youth leadership, and political engagement.
