Growing up in Gaza: Education is Nonviolent Resistance

Abdallah Salha

RECORDING AVAILABLE HERE

Gaza has been described as the largest open-air prison in the world. Home to more than Two million Palestinians, with 13,000 people per square mile Gaza is one of the most densely-populated places in the world. Since 2007, Israel has imposed a blockade on Gaza that has severely impacted every aspect of daily life for its inhabitants. Our October Forum speaker, Abdallah Salha, grew up in Gaza under these extremely challenging conditions. He will describe his experiences growing up there, obtaining an education, and his path to Minnesota.
About Abdallah: Originally from Gaza, Palestine, Abdallah has joined numerous organizations abroad to further explore human rights, solidarity and conflict resolution including work in interfaith, diverse environments, which have shaped his perception of the world and commitment to a safe, peaceful and prosperous future for all. His interest in international relations was ignited at an early age upon being selected to represent Palestinian refugees to international organizations and high-ranking officials. He is a student at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN intending to major in International Affairs and Business Economics. Earlier, he graduated from Red Cross Nordic United World College, Norway, followed by his Global Citizen Year bridge year program in Senegal where he received a full grant to apprentice as a co-producer of an English educational podcast and as a teaching assistant in its support. He is now serving the Leonard Education Organization as the Director of Communications.
