The Palestinians that Remained: Foreigners in their Ancestral Homeland

Forum Recording is Available Here

* Please note that MEPN’s Annual Meeting and online elections for the Board of Directors will be held from 10am – 10:15am CT

Israel’s establishment is premised on the notion of Jewish supremacy, which necessitates racial domination. As a result of Israel’s creation in 1948, Palestinians were ethnically cleansed from their homeland, and over 750,000 of them became refugees. Approximately 160,000 of them remained in what became the state of Israel. In zionist discourse, these Palestinians are denied their nationality, and instead referred to in ethnic terms (i.e. Arab-Israelis). This session will highlight the institutional structure of Israel’s zionist paradigm, which is meant to leave Palestinians politically powerless, whether as refugees abroad, or citizens of the state in which they live.
