“How to Study and Teach about Genocide in the Midst of Israel’s Genocide
in Palestine and the US Attack on Universities”
Early in the war on Gaza, Dr. Raz Segal asserted publicly that Israel was committing genocide in Gaza. Several months later the University of Minnesota rescinded a formal job offer it had made to Dr. Segal to lead the University’s Center for Holocaust & Genocide Studies.
Dr. Segal will discuss the attrition in academic freedom that his experience exemplifies and examine the spurious equation of criticism of Israel with antisemitism.
Israeli-American historian Dr. Raz Segal is Associate Professor of Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Stockton University, New Jersey, where he is an endowed professor and directs the MA program. Dr. Segal’s academic work explores the Holocaust as part of the process of imperial collapse in the late modern era.
